To the Northeast :

Take the road Garrucha - Vera. Just before Vera turn right, in the direction of Cartagena- Aguilas to Cuevas de Almanzora. Pass through Cuevas and at the end you will find traffic - lights. Turn left there, then right and when you see the bridge get onto the service-road ( servidumbre) keeping the ( dry) riverbed to your right. Following the road uphill you will have African landscape to your right and the cliffs with hundreds of caves on your left. At the end of that road you will find multi-coloured rocks and a water reservoir with a gigantic Indalo painted on the dam. Coming back down there is the opportunity to visit the historic caves. Follow the sign Cuevas Históricas, if yo wish to do so. Otherwise get back to the traffic-lights, turn left over the bridge and follow the road in the direction of Aguilas. Just at the border between Andalucia and Murcia you will find a sign leading to the Playa de Carolina which is well worth a visit with its spectacular rock formations and two idyllic beaches. You can now carry on to Aguilas (about 8 Km) or return to Mojácar via the coastal road, passing through Villaricos and the Paseo Marítimo of Garrucha. We suggest that you allow yorselves about four hours for this round-trip.
